About Angela Reilly

 

Angela Reilly is a Scottish figurative artist whose work is distinguished by its psychological depth, technical precision, and commitment to traditional craftsmanship within a contemporary context. She studied Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art.

 

Her work has been recognised in numerous prestigious competitions, including multiple selections for the BP Portrait Award—where she was awarded Third Prize in 2006—as well as finalist positions in the 12th and 13th International ARC Salon Competitions. She has also been longlisted for the Ruth Borchard Self Portrait Prize and the Scottish Portrait Awards.

 

Her paintings have been exhibited at leading institutions such as the National Portrait Gallery, the Royal Scottish Academy, and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. In addition to solo exhibitions at Rollo Contemporary Art in London, she has exhibited widely throughout the UK, Europe and New York. She has completed many major portrait commissions, including the Inner Temple (Lord Chancellor Lord Falconer), Dundee University, and Abertay University.

Her work is featured in numerous publications;  50 Portraits, The BP Portrait Award and The Dictionary of Scottish Painters , she has appeared on BBC TV and BBC Radio Scotland discussing contemporary portraiture. In addition to her artistic practice, Reilly has taught portraiture and had demonstrations at the National Portrait Gallery, the Glasgow Art Club, and Heatherleys School of Art.

She  works from her studio in Glasgow, continuing to explore the subtleties of human expression through portraiture and her exploration of the figurative form.
